Justin acts for both local and expatriate clients. He handles his clients compassionately and sensitively in their personal matters. He strives for just and expedited resolutions by providing cost-effective solutions for his clients.

 

Justin has litigation experience at all levels of the Courts and has acted as lead counsel in matters heard both in the Family Court and in the Family Division of the High Court. He has also assisted clients with Court of Appeal matters.

 

Justin’s litigation practice encompasses all aspects of family law and divorce matters including but not limited to: contested divorce proceedings, contentious child issues, maintenance claims, division of matrimonial assets involving high net worth parties and overseas assets, guardianship applications, international cases involving cross-border issues such as relocation and forum non conveniens, applications for Personal Protection Orders, interlocutory applications e.g. injunctions, striking out, discovery/interrogatories, stay of proceedings, enforcement applications and financial matters pursuant to a foreign divorce.

 

In line with the Family Justice Courts' direction towards therapeutic justice, Justin is invested in mediation (both Court directed and private) and amicable resolution of cases whenever possible. He assists parties with negotiating out-of-court settlements for sustainable outcomes.

 

As a solicitor, Justin also advises parties on non-contentious matters such as drafting pre-nuptial agreements; post-nuptial agreements; deeds of separation; trust deeds and Wills.

Experience

  • Acted as lead counsel in a High Court matter in which he successfully argued for his client, the homemaker wife, to be awarded 50% of the matrimonial pool ($2,995,061.36) and lump sum spousal maintenance of $528,000 ($2,000 a month for a period of 22 years) (XEB v XEC [2024] SGHCF 37).
  • Acted as lead counsel in a High Court matter in which the issue of the division of assets were heavily disputed. He acted for the husband in this matter and successfully argued that the wife’s lottery winnings be attributed equally as both parties’ Direct Financial Contributions to the acquisition matrimonial home. He also managed to increase the husband’s share of known matrimonial assets by 5% in view of the Wife’s undisclosed income (VQF v VQG [2024] SGHCF 4).
  • Acted as lead counsel in a High Court matter in which he successfully argued for his client, the father, to be granted care and control of the children despite the mother being a homemaker during the marriage. He also successfully argued the division of assets such that his client was awarded 75% of the matrimonial pool (Unreported decision of WKW v WKX [2020]).
  • Acted for a client in a High Court matter involving a long marriage in which both parties worked during the marriage. He succeeded in arguing a higher percentage of the Direct Financial Contributions and Indirect Contributions to the marriage for his client the husband, leading to the husband receiving a higher share of the pool of matrimonial assets (WLE v WLF [2023] SGHCF 14).
  • Acted as lead counsel in a Family Court matter in which he successfully argued for his client, the wife, to be awarded 82% of the matrimonial property.
  • Acted as lead counsel in successfully resisting an application involving expatriate parties with cross-border issues to strike out and/or stay the wife's claim for spousal maintenance. The application was dismissed in its entirety with cost orders in favor of his client.
