31 Jan 2010

Harry Elias Partnership is pleased to announce that on 25 January 2010, the Partners have unanimously elected Philip Fong as our new Managing Partner of the Firm.

Philip has extensive experience in arbitration, commercial litigation (contracts), corporate (shareholders and employees), property disputes (en bloc and trusts) and judicial review and is consistently identified as a leading business crime lawyer in industry publications such as Who’s Who Legal. In the area of regulatory compliance, with his past experience as an Assistant Director (Financial Intelligence) in the Singapore Commercial Affairs Department, Philip is constantly sought for his advice on securities laws (insider trading and market manipulation), counter terrorist financing and corporate compliance (directors’ statutory and regulatory duties). A partner since 1995, Philip has been leading the Firm’s Civil and Commercial Litigation Practice Group as well as the Regulatory Compliance and Commercial Fraud Practice Group.

Speaking about his appointment, Philip said, “I cherish the opportunity to serve in such an established firm that has brilliant lawyers, great clients, and best friends. I regard it a duty and privilege to devote myself unswervingly toward the attainment of our prized corporate objectives and values. Together and with the help and cooperation of everyone at HEP, I will do my utmost to discharge my duties with credit to those who have confidence in me. Like all law firms, we face many challenges and operate in an increasingly competitive and uncertain environment. My focus as Managing Partner and together with the Ex-Co, is to build on the growth and success of the Firm and to ensure strong results for our clients and ourselves, and dominance in the legal landcape. “

Other than Philip Fong, the other Ex-Co members are Pauline Lee, Foo Siew Fong, Michael Palmer and S Suressh.

Mr Harry Elias SC, the Founder and Consultant of the Firm said, “I warmly congratulate Philip on his appointment, which is part of evolutionary growth – building on the Firm’s recognised strength in values, depth and quality.  He has the intellectual calibre, personal qualities and commercial savvy to drive continued growth as HEP maintains its position as one of the leading full-service law firm in Singapore.”
