We see our trainees as individuals who will, in the future, be called to the Singapore Bar and become our associates and in time, become a partner of our firm. We therefore invest a great deal of time and energy into developing our trainees.
We are fiercely proud of our reputation and the quality of our work and work hard to maintain it and we expect our trainees to be the same. While grades are important, we take the view that the true measure of ability is not obtained merely through academic results. Equally important are your work ethics, competency, core legal work, problem-solving skills and ability to work as a team.
We are a full-service firm and you will therefore be exposed to all our practice areas. This will be an opportunity for you, at the start of your legal career, to gain valuable exposure, as well as to get a better idea of the type of work you feel most suits you.
We believe that the best way to learn is to get hands-on experience. You will have to think on your feet, be self-motivated, and responsible for the files you work on. That said, our doors are always open and our partners and associates are always there to help and guide you along.
When you send us your training contract application, please let us know the areas of practice you are interested in. We will make every effort to assign you a mentor of your preferred field. There is a rotation policy but it is not a rigid system, primarily designed to allow you to experience the area of law that you feel both interests and benefits you.
The firm will pay a competitive monthly honorarium during your training contract. You will also receive an additional lump sum honorarium provided that you have sat for the Singapore Bar Examination Part B (“Part B”) prior to the commencement of your practice training with the Firm and have successfully completed Part B without having to re-sit any paper(s). You will be paid the additional lump sum honorarium regardless of whether you are retained by the Firm.
If you choose to sit for Part B after the completion of your practice training with the Firm, you will be paid the lump sum honorarium provided that you successfully complete Part B without having to re-sit any paper(s) and upon your retention by the Firm.
We take on trainees with a view to retention and their future development as part of our firm and so our retention rate is very high.
