Eversheds Harry Elias hosted Cocktail Reception for government officials in support of the 2019 Singapore International Arbitration Academy

Eversheds Harry Elias proudly hosted an exclusive cocktail reception for over 30 government officials and academics on 25 February 2019 at Faber Peak. The event was part of the Singapore International Arbitration Academy (“SIAA”) course, organised by the NUS Centre for International Law. The attendees came from different jurisdictions in Southeast Asia and beyond, including Japan, Georgia, and Poland. They comprised junior to senior level government officials from different government entities in their jurisdictions, such as the equivalent of the Attorney General’s Chambers, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The attendees arrived at Faber Peak in style via a breathtaking cable car ride from HarbourFront Centre. The programme host for the evening was Louis Lim, legal associate of the International Arbitration Practice. EHE’s Managing Partner, Mr Philip Fong, gave the Welcome Address, discussing the international arbitration landscape in the region and EHE’s achievements on the arbitration front. One of the highlights of the cocktail reception was the Trivia Game, where the attendees had to compete in groups to answer questions on geography, sports, and general knowledge. This year’s SIAA was an eight-day programme for government officials, legal academics and private practitioners in the Asia-Pacific region and from around the world to meet and interact with luminaries of international arbitration and develop new professional relationships. Participants had the opportunity to be immersed in both investment law and law of the sea issues, and had the opportunity to argue in either investor-state arbitration proceedings or state-to-state law of the sea proceedings before a distinguished tribunal (comprising ICJ Judge Joan Donoghue and Professors Vaughan Lowe QC, Philippe Sands QC, Lucy Reed, and Robert Beckman).
