Derick is a partner in our Corporate and Financial Services Practice Group. His main areas of practice include the equity and debt capital markets, M&As, investment funds, as well as technology and digital regulatory advice. He served his pupillage and practised at Harry Elias Partnership for 4 years before being head-hunted to join a law firm in Dubai, UAE, where he headed up the China Desk of the Dubai firm and was a legal consultant to major UAE government-linked entities, private offices as well as many East Asian enterprises venturing into the Middle East. All in all, Derick spent about 7 years as a legal consultant in the Middle East, during which he eventually rose to manage the Dubai and Abu Dhabi offices of a Singapore-headquartered international law firm. Being highly fluent in both English and Mandarin, Derick also has good rapport with many Chinese and other East Asian clients.
Upon re-joining Harry Elias Partnership in 2018, Derick picked up where he left off and serves as counsel to a number of MNCs, SGX-ST listed companies as well as trade chambers and statutory boards, including the Singapore Business Federation and the Singapore Corporation of Rehabilitative Enterprises. Derick is also growing his specialty in work related to funds and private trusts, where he has advised clients who fall anywhere along the fund distribution value chain, from capital market intermediaries to trustees, fund managers, investors, sponsors and other stakeholders. As a technology and digital regulatory advisor who is plugged in to the funds and trusts ecosystem, Derick also helps many capital markets intermediaries with their licensing and compliance needs.
Derick obtained his LLB from the National University of Singapore and is a member of the Singapore Bar.
