HEP Law Office (Brunei)
HEP Law Office in Brunei began its operations in 2012. It officially launched its presence in Brunei Darussalam in November 2013 in collaboration with local Bruneian lawyer Ms Nani Ismi with its opening ceremony being officiated by Dato Paduka Hj Ali Bin Hj Apong, Deputy Minister, Prime Minister’s Office. Today, it is led by Managing Partner Mr Philip Fong in collaboration with local partner Ms Neilia Tan.
HEP Law Office in Brunei provides expertise in the areas of Construction Engineering & Infrastructure Projects, Oil & Gas, Syariah law and Civil & Commercial Litigation. In the short time since HEP Law Office was formed, HEP Law Office has advised and represented large government-linked companies in Brunei.
HEP Law Office is one of the first Singapore-linked law firms to be set up in Brunei. It is testament to the good ties between the two countries and ensures that this close partnership is maintained going forward.
Managing Partner Philip Fong and Singapore Partner Tan Chau Yee, who are both based in Singapore, have been called to the Brunei Bar and regularly shuttle to and fro to lend their expertise. As both countries grow in stature both politically and economically, so will opportunities for greater collaborations in the legal landscape. The Firm has also received a number of enquiries from corporates based in Singapore enquiring about legal advice relating to Brunei. It has also handled a number of successful litigation cases in Brunei including one on human trafficking.
“Brunei needs committed lawyers from overseas who believe in win-win arrangements that benefit Brunei significantly and meaningfully in the long run. It is important for local Brunei lawyers to work closely side by side with foreign lawyers in order to learn and adopt legal expertise on a faster and more substantial scale. As such, I welcome the commitment of Harry Elias Partnership to help build up the local legal industry.”
